The original Salisbury Cathedral was built within the old hillfort of Old Sarum, just north of the present city. It was eventually moved into the valley below. It is a superb piece of architecture with the highest spire in the country. There are some notable monuments, including those to the Longsword Earls of Salisbury and some very early bishops. St. Osmund's shrine has gone, but part of his tomb survives.
