Asthall Church is mostly late 12th century in date, with a tower added in the 1400s. The Northern Cornwall Chapel houses the 14th century monument to Lady Joan, wife of Sir Edmund de Cornwall, an illegitimate grandson Prince Richard, Earl of Cornwall and sometime Holy Roman Emperor. Above her is a complete medieval stained glass window of circa 1321. The chapel has an unusual stone screen and altar with built in piscina. The church's wooden rood screen was destroyed in a major fire during the 1870s. The building was restored in 1884 and the chancel decorated in Puginesque style with delightful biblical roundels and scrollwork, now sadly much in need of restoration themselves. At the west end of the church is the old clock of 1670. The pictures on this page are cropped examples of images in our high resolution photo library.
